Hydrologic Outlook issued March 9 at 3:09PM EDT by NWS Grand Rapids MI
Effective: Mon March 9, 2026, 3:09 PM
Expires: Tue March 10, 2026, 3:15 PM
ESFGRR Significant ponded and standing water could impact travel Tuesday Night and Wednesday morning as heavy rain moves back into the area, especially along and south of I-96. Saturated soils from recent rainfall will make this problem worse, especially if storms track over urban areas repeatedly. As this water finds its way into the rivers, some minor river flooding is expected later this week, as water levels are still high after last weekends rains. With rain totals of 1-2 inches possible, the most at-risk rivers for flooding are the mid-sized tributaries on the Grand River, including the Maple River, Sycamore Creek, and the Red Cedar River. If rain amounts overperform, minor flooding on the Grand River itself will be possible. The latest water level data is always available at weather.gov/grr This statement will be updated on Tuesday, March 10, 2026.

ESFGRR Confidence is increasing that several rounds of heavy rain will affect southern Lower Michigan starting this evening. The latest weather and water information is always at weather.gov/grr This statement will not be updated.

In southwest Michigan, Kalamazoo and Van Buren. * WHEN...From 8 PM EDT this evening through Wednesday morning. * IMPACTS...Creeks and streams may rise out of their banks. Flooding may occur in poor drainage and urban areas. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS... - Several rounds of thunderstorms and heavy rain are likely this evening and overnight into Wednesday morning. When combined with saturated soils from heavy rains over the weekend, flooding may again develop. The highest chance for flooding will be in urban areas and locations that received heavy rainfall over the last several days. Additionally, some minor river flooding is likely as this water finds its way into the river systems. - http://www.weather.gov/safety/flood
