A Marine Weather Statement has been issued for the following areas... Nearshore Waters from Wilmette Harbor to Calumet Harbor... Nearshore Waters from Calumet Harbor to Michigan City... Open Waters from Wilmette Harbor to Michigan City out to Mid Lake... At 303 PM CDT, Doppler radar indicated strong gust front winds up to around 30 knots from a thunderstorm. These strong winds were located along a line extending from Midway Airport to near Calumet Harbor to 8 nm south of Hammond Marina, moving northeast at 20 knots. In addition, other widely scattered thunderstorms will continue to develop across far southern Lake Michigan, any one of which, could produce localized variable and gusty winds to around 30 knots.

Mariners can expect gusty winds to around 30 knots, locally higher waves, and lightning strikes. Boaters should seek safe harbor immediately until these storms pass.
