Flood Advisory issued January 30 at 4:15PM EST until February 2 at 7:00PM EST by NWS Grand Rapids MI

Effective: Fri January 30, 2026, 4:15 PM
Expires: Mon February 2, 2026, 7:00 PM

* WHAT...Flooding along the Muskegon River remains possible due to an ice jam. * WHERE...A portion of west central Michigan, including the following county, Newaygo. * WHEN...Until 700 PM EST Monday. * IMPACTS...Ice jams are notoriously unpredictable. Low-lying areas along the Muskegon River that are prone to flooding may see rapidly changing water levels as ice shifts and adjusts. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS... - At 408 PM EST, an ice jam remains in place on the Muskegon river in southern Newaygo County. The river gauge at Newaygo shows water levels remaining at minor flood stage as of Friday afternoon. As temperatures warm this weekend, water levels should continue to slowly fall. Shorter periods of rising and falling water levels are expected with any shifts in the ice. - As the river freezes up, ice can restrict the flow of the river and cause rises and falls in water level. While flooding associated with freeze up ice jams is typically minor, conditions can change rapidly and unpredictably. - Some locations that will experience flooding include... Newaygo. - http://www.weather.gov/safety/flood

Please report observed flooding to local emergency services or law enforcement. Respect any road closures in the area.

The times presented here are based upon the solunar theory, which is the idea that the movements of fish and other animals are affected by the location of the sun and moon. The major periods are believed to be the times of the greatest animal activity and occur when the moon is directly overhead or underfoot (lunar transits). The minor periods also see increased activity and occur when the moon is rising or setting. The strongest activity occurs during full or new moons, and the weakest during quarter or three quarter moons. This is indicated by the Action Rating.
