Extreme Heat Warning issued June 29 at 1:57PM EDT until July 2 at 8:00PM EDT by NWS Detroit/Pontiac MI

Effective: Mon June 29, 2026, 1:57 PM
Expires: Tue June 30, 2026, 5:00 AM

* WHAT...Dangerously hot conditions with heat index exceeding 105 to near 110 degrees expected. * WHERE...All of southeast Michigan. * WHEN...From noon Tuesday to 8 PM EDT Thursday. * IMPACTS...Heat related illnesses increase significantly during extreme heat and high humidity events. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS...An extended period of hot and humid conditions begins Tuesday afternoon and peaks Wednesday through at least Thursday. High temperatures reach the mid 90s to near 100 degrees and combine with high humidity to result in heat index of 105 degrees or greater each day. Little relief occurs at night as low temperatures only fall into the mid and upper 70s with nighttime heat index around 80.

Drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors. Do not leave young children and pets in unattended vehicles. Car interiors will reach lethal temperatures in a matter of minutes. Take extra precautions when outside. Wear lightweight and loose fitting clothing. Try to limit strenuous activities to early morning or evening. Take action when you see symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke. To reduce risk during outdoor work, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration recommends scheduling frequent rest breaks in shaded or air conditioned environments. Anyone overcome by heat should be moved to a cool and shaded location. Heat stroke is an emergency! Call 9 1 1. Monitor the latest forecasts and warnings for updates. Check with local emergency management officials for information on cooling center availability.

The times presented here are based upon the solunar theory, which is the idea that the movements of fish and other animals are affected by the location of the sun and moon. The major periods are believed to be the times of the greatest animal activity and occur when the moon is directly overhead or underfoot (lunar transits). The minor periods also see increased activity and occur when the moon is rising or setting. The strongest activity occurs during full or new moons, and the weakest during quarter or three quarter moons. This is indicated by the Action Rating.
