Special Weather Statement issued January 10 at 2:06PM CST by NWS Chicago IL

Effective: Sat January 10, 2026, 2:06 PM
Expires: Sat January 10, 2026, 7:00 PM

A period of accumulating snow will move west to east across the area between about 6 PM and Midnight. Snow could become heavy at times with quick accumulations of one to two inches (potentially higher in localized corridors) leading to hazardous and rapidly-varying travel conditions, particularly south of a La Salle to Rensselaer line. In addition, winds will occasionally gust between 25 and 35 mph leading to wind-whipped snowfall at times. Motorists should use extra caution this evening and be prepared for rapidly-changing conditions over short distances.

The times presented here are based upon the solunar theory, which is the idea that the movements of fish and other animals are affected by the location of the sun and moon. The major periods are believed to be the times of the greatest animal activity and occur when the moon is directly overhead or underfoot (lunar transits). The minor periods also see increased activity and occur when the moon is rising or setting. The strongest activity occurs during full or new moons, and the weakest during quarter or three quarter moons. This is indicated by the Action Rating.
