Special Weather Statement issued March 16 at 7:55PM EDT by NWS Northern Indiana

Effective: Mon March 16, 2026, 6:55 PM
Expires: Tue March 17, 2026, 4:00 AM

Snow has a greater chance of sticking overnight tonight after sunset and gusty 25 to 40 mph winds linger into the overnight allowing blowing and drifting snow where it has accumulated. Reduced visibility to or below 2 miles will still also be possible in snow showers and lake effect snow. These conditions allow for the possibility of slick conditions overnight. If you're out driving tonight, use caution travelling, especially on bridges, lesser traveled roads like back roads, and untreated roads. Additionally, leave extra stopping distance behind other vehicles.

Winter Weather Advisory issued March 16 at 9:06PM EDT until March 17 at 11:00AM EDT by NWS Northern Indiana

Effective: Mon March 16, 2026, 8:06 PM
Expires: Tue March 17, 2026, 10:00 AM

* WHAT...Lake effect snow. Additional snow accumulations between 1 and 3 inches. Winds gusting as high as 40 mph. * WHERE...Portions of northern Indiana and southwest Michigan. * WHEN...Until 11 AM EDT /10 AM CDT/ Tuesday. * IMPACTS...Roads, and especially bridges and overpasses, will likely become slick and hazardous. Plan on slippery road conditions. The hazardous conditions could impact the Tuesday morning commute. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Cellular nature of snow as well as lingering 25 to 40 mph wind gusts will allow for variable visibility affecting travel. Snow is accumulating on roads so use caution while driving as roads could be slippery.

Slow down and use caution while traveling. The latest road conditions for the state you are calling from can be obtained by calling 5 1 1. During lake effect snow, the weather can vary from bands of locally heavy snow to dry weather just a few miles away. Visibilities can also vary greatly. Be prepared for rapid changes in weather, visibility, and road conditions.

The times presented here are based upon the solunar theory, which is the idea that the movements of fish and other animals are affected by the location of the sun and moon. The major periods are believed to be the times of the greatest animal activity and occur when the moon is directly overhead or underfoot (lunar transits). The minor periods also see increased activity and occur when the moon is rising or setting. The strongest activity occurs during full or new moons, and the weakest during quarter or three quarter moons. This is indicated by the Action Rating.
