South-southwest winds will shift to the west-northwest behind a cold front moving across Minnesota this afternoon. West-northwest winds gusting to between 25 and 35 mph with afternoon humidities falling to between 25 and 35 percent will result in elevated fire weather conditions across much of central and southern Minnesota. Check with the Department of Natural Resources and your county for an local burning restrictions and fire danger before burning. For more information on burning restrictions for Minnesota, see www.dnr.state.mn.us/forestry/fire/firerating_restrictions.html.

South to southwest winds will gust up to 35 mph this afternoon. These winds, along with cured crops, low humidity levels, and temperatures of 85 to 90, will lead to very high fire danger today. Any fires that develop in cured agricultural will spread quickly and could become difficult to control. Avoid brush or grass burning today, use extra caution with farm and outdoor equipment, and do not carelessly discard cigarettes.
Red Flag Warning issued October 5 at 11:30AM MDT until October 5 at 7:00PM MDT by NWS Denver CO

Expires: Sat October 5, 2024, 8:00 PM
...WINDY CONDITIONS AND LOW RELATIVE HUMIDITY WILL CAUSE WIDESPREAD CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER CONDITIONS ACROSS NORTH CENTRAL AND NORTHEAST COLORADO THIS AFTERNOON INTO THE EVENING... Gusty west/northwest winds will continue across the area, strongest over the mountains, foothills and northern border plains. Very dry conditions are expected, with minimum humidity of 8-15% across the lower elevations, and 10-18% in the high country below 10,000 ft. Temperatures will be well above seasonal normals. Given vegetation has dried significantly in recent weeks, this combination of factors will lead to widespread critical fire weather conditions across the forecast area this afternoon through early this evening. * AFFECTED AREA...Fire Weather Zones 238, 242, 244, 248, 249, 250 and 251. * TIMING...Until 7 PM MDT this evening. * WINDS...Northwest 10 to 20 mph with gusts up to 35 mph. * RELATIVE HUMIDITY...As low as 10 percent. * IMPACTS...Conditions will be favorable for rapid fire spread. Avoid outdoor burning and any activity that may produce a spark and start a wildfire.
A Red Flag Warning means that critical fire weather conditions are either occurring now....or will shortly. A combination of strong winds...low relative humidity...and warm temperatures can contribute to extreme fire behavior.
