Special Weather Statement issued February 24 at 6:02AM CST by NWS Quad Cities IA IL

Effective: Tue February 24, 2026, 6:02 AM
Expires: Tue February 24, 2026, 4:00 PM

South to southwest winds will become gusty up to 30 to 40 MPH today. The peak wind gusts are expected from late morning through early afternoon, before slowly decreasing from west to east as a cold front approaches. These winds will combine with milder temperatures, low humidity, and dry conditions to produce and Elevated Fire Danger today, mainly between 10 AM and 5 PM. If a fire were to start under these conditions, there would be an increased threat of fire spread and it would be difficult to control. Outdoor burning is strongly discouraged. Use extra caution today by avoiding actions that could lead to fire starts. Be especially careful while operating outdoor equipment around dry vegetation and do not carelessly discard cigarettes.

The times presented here are based upon the solunar theory, which is the idea that the movements of fish and other animals are affected by the location of the sun and moon. The major periods are believed to be the times of the greatest animal activity and occur when the moon is directly overhead or underfoot (lunar transits). The minor periods also see increased activity and occur when the moon is rising or setting. The strongest activity occurs during full or new moons, and the weakest during quarter or three quarter moons. This is indicated by the Action Rating.
