Special Weather Statement issued May 4 at 2:29AM CDT by NWS La Crosse WI

Effective: Mon May 4, 2026, 2:29 AM
Expires: Mon May 4, 2026, 7:00 PM

The combination of low relative humidity values, warm temperatures, southwesterly winds becoming northwesterly winds, and dry fuels will result in elevated fire weather conditions from mid morning through the late afternoon across northeast Iowa, southeast Minnesota, and southwest and west central Wisconsin. Afternoon relative humidity values will fall to around 25 to 30 percent with winds of 10 to 20 mph, gusting to 35 mph through much of the day. Under these conditions, fires will start and spread easily. Please exercise caution with any activities that involve outdoor fires or create sparks, including campfires, grilling, and operating large equipment. Cigarettes should be disposed of and extinguished properly. Please heed any local burn bans.

Special Weather Statement issued May 4 at 3:51AM CDT by NWS Quad Cities IA IL

Effective: Mon May 4, 2026, 3:51 AM
Expires: Mon May 4, 2026, 7:00 PM

Strong southwest winds gusting up to 30 MPH will combine with warm temperatures and low humidity to produce an Elevated Fire Danger today. If a fire were to start under these conditions, there would be an increased threat of fire spread and be difficult to control. Outdoor burning is strongly discouraged. Use extra caution while operating outdoor equipment and do not carelessly discard cigarettes.

The times presented here are based upon the solunar theory, which is the idea that the movements of fish and other animals are affected by the location of the sun and moon. The major periods are believed to be the times of the greatest animal activity and occur when the moon is directly overhead or underfoot (lunar transits). The minor periods also see increased activity and occur when the moon is rising or setting. The strongest activity occurs during full or new moons, and the weakest during quarter or three quarter moons. This is indicated by the Action Rating.
