Effective: Sun March 29, 2026, 6:53 AM
Expires: Mon March 30, 2026, 12:00 AM

The combination of afternoon relative humidity values between 17 and 25 percent, winds gusting between 15 mph and 25 mph, and very dry fuels will lead to an increased risk for wildfires throughout north central and northwest North Carolina today. Residents and visitors are urged to properly dispose of cigarette butts, matches, and any other flammable items in appropriate containers. Additionally, exercise caution if operating any equipment that could create sparks and keep vehicles off of dry grass. Most dry grasses, dead leaves, and other tree litter could easily ignite and spread fire quickly. Please be reminded that a statewide burn ban issued by the NC Forest Service is currently in place. Open burning of any kind is illegal.

The times presented here are based upon the solunar theory, which is the idea that the movements of fish and other animals are affected by the location of the sun and moon. The major periods are believed to be the times of the greatest animal activity and occur when the moon is directly overhead or underfoot (lunar transits). The minor periods also see increased activity and occur when the moon is rising or setting. The strongest activity occurs during full or new moons, and the weakest during quarter or three quarter moons. This is indicated by the Action Rating.
