Special Weather Statement issued April 7 at 8:28PM EDT by NWS Columbia SC

Effective: Wed April 8, 2026, 12:28 AM
Expires: Thu April 9, 2026, 12:00 AM

A cold front is expected to move in tonight bringing breezy winds with low relative humidity generally between 20 to 30 percent. Breezy winds and low relative humidity combined with dry fuels as determined by forestry partners, an elevated fire weather threat will be in place across the Midlands and CSRA Wednesday. Outdoor fires will have the potential to spread quickly, increasing the danger of wildfires. Avoid any activity that could spark a fire. In addition, the Forestry Commission has issued a red flag fire alert starting Wednesday morning.

The times presented here are based upon the solunar theory, which is the idea that the movements of fish and other animals are affected by the location of the sun and moon. The major periods are believed to be the times of the greatest animal activity and occur when the moon is directly overhead or underfoot (lunar transits). The minor periods also see increased activity and occur when the moon is rising or setting. The strongest activity occurs during full or new moons, and the weakest during quarter or three quarter moons. This is indicated by the Action Rating.
