Special Weather Statement issued March 28 at 10:25PM EDT by NWS Columbia SC

Effective: Sat March 28, 2026, 10:25 PM
Expires: Sun March 29, 2026, 8:00 PM

Continued dry fuels and low humidity across the region raise concern for increased fire danger. Although winds will not be as strong as the previous day, relative humidity values nearing critical levels combined with dry fuels support a continued elevated fire weather threat across the Midlands and CSRA. Outdoor fires will have the potential to spread quickly, increasing the danger of wildfires. A statewide burn ban remains in effect for South Carolina until further notice.

Special Weather Statement issued March 28 at 10:04PM EDT by NWS Greenville-Spartanburg SC

Effective: Sat March 28, 2026, 10:04 PM
Expires: Sun March 29, 2026, 8:00 AM

While moisture is expected to begin slowly recovering tomorrow, another very dry afternoon is expected with relative humidity between 20 and 30 percent forecast across much of the area. Although winds will be mostly light...between 5 and 10 mph, the dry air combined with very dry vegetation will result in a continuation of elevated fire danger. Statewide burn bans are in effect for both North Carolina and South Carolina until further notice. Open burning of any kind is subject to fines until the bans are lifted.

The times presented here are based upon the solunar theory, which is the idea that the movements of fish and other animals are affected by the location of the sun and moon. The major periods are believed to be the times of the greatest animal activity and occur when the moon is directly overhead or underfoot (lunar transits). The minor periods also see increased activity and occur when the moon is rising or setting. The strongest activity occurs during full or new moons, and the weakest during quarter or three quarter moons. This is indicated by the Action Rating.
