Service Notice – February 2026: The Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC) CAP Service undergoes changes from time to time as the business of alerting evolves. For 2026, changes are expected to include... 1) ECCC's initiative to introduce free-form polygons to represent the true threat area of a weather hazard is tentatively set for Spring 2026 deployment. Data changes will appear in CAP following this deployment and 2) other minor improvements and corrections.

Effective: Mon March 9, 2026, 2:13 PM
Expires: Tue March 10, 2026, 6:13 AM

Potential for significant rain and freezing rain this week. What: Periods of freezing rain. Ice accretion or build up of 2 to 5 mm. Rainfall amounts of 20 to 40 mm. When: Beginning Tuesday night or Wednesday morning and lasting through Wednesday or Wednesday night. Where: Portions of central and eastern Ontario. Additional information: A series of low pressure systems will lead to significant rain and freezing rain across parts of southern Ontario. Ice build up may cause tree branches to break. Utility outages are possible. There remains uncertainty across the region as to the primary form of precipitation as temperatures will hover near the freezing mark. As a result, precipitation may transition back and forth from rain and freezing rain across this time period. Precipitation may fall heavily at times, which may lead to localized flooding in low lying areas. Freezing rain warnings or rainfall warnings may be issued as the event draws nearer. For information concerning flooding, please consult your local Conservation Authority or Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources office. Visit Ontario.ca/floods for the latest details. ### Please continue to monitor alerts and forecasts issued by Environment Canada. To report severe weather, send an email to ONstorm@ec.gc.ca or post reports on X using #ONStorm.

Flood Watch issued March 9 at 1:52PM EDT until March 12 at 2:00PM EDT by NWS Burlington VT

Effective: Mon March 9, 2026, 1:52 PM
Expires: Tue March 10, 2026, 4:15 AM

Warm temperatures may melt snowpack and increase river flows. * WHAT...Flooding caused by a combination of rain, snowmelt, and ice jams is possible. * WHERE...All of northern New York and northern and central Vermont. * WHEN...Through Thursday afternoon. * IMPACTS...Excessive runoff from snowmelt and rainfall will cause sharp river rises, likely resulting in river ice break up. Ice jams will be possible, along with rapid onset flooding. Flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations will be possible and creeks and streams may rise out of their banks. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS... - Mild temperatures will lead to rapid rises on area rivers through early this week. This will be followed by widespread rain Wednesday into Thursday. Rising rivers will cause river ice to break up and flow, potentially resulting in ice jams and associated flooding. As rain moves in Wednesday, the threat will turn more toward open water flooding for those waterways that have lost their ice. Any open water flooding will likely persist through Thursday. - http://www.weather.gov/safety/flood

You should monitor later forecasts and be alert for possible Flood Warnings. Those living in areas prone to flooding should be prepared to take action should flooding develop.

The times presented here are based upon the solunar theory, which is the idea that the movements of fish and other animals are affected by the location of the sun and moon. The major periods are believed to be the times of the greatest animal activity and occur when the moon is directly overhead or underfoot (lunar transits). The minor periods also see increased activity and occur when the moon is rising or setting. The strongest activity occurs during full or new moons, and the weakest during quarter or three quarter moons. This is indicated by the Action Rating.
