Special Weather Statement issued April 23 at 2:31AM EDT by NWS Burlington VT

Effective: Thu April 23, 2026, 2:31 AM
Expires: Thu April 23, 2026, 6:00 PM

* AFFECTED AREA...Portions of northern New York and central, northwest and southern Vermont. * WINDS...North 10 to 15 mph with gusts up to 30 mph. * RELATIVE HUMIDITY...As low as 20 to 30 percent. * TEMPERATURES...50 to 60 degrees. * FUELS...Per coordination with our partners, the recent dry weather has caused fine dead fuels across the region to dry out. * IMPACTS...If any fires were to start the weather and fuel conditions could cause fires to quickly get out of control and be difficult to contain. For more information about the current fire danger rating, any burn restrictions, and wildfire prevention and education, please visit your state forestry or environmental protection website.

Special Weather Statement issued April 22 at 2:01PM EDT by NWS Albany NY

Effective: Wed April 22, 2026, 2:01 PM
Expires: Thu April 23, 2026, 7:00 PM

The combination of dry fine fuels, gusty northwesterly winds up to 25 mph and minimum relative humidity values between 25 and 35 percent will contribute to an elevated risk for fire spread on Thursday for portions of the Upper Hudson Valley, including Washington, Warren and Saratoga Counties. The lowest relative humidity values and strongest winds will likely occur in the mid afternoon hours. As a reminder, the annual statewide burn ban is in effect until May 14. No burn permits are issued. Use extra caution if handling any potential ignition sources such as machinery or matches and ensure to properly extinguish or dispose of cigarette butts. Please refer to the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation website for more information on burn restrictions.

The times presented here are based upon the solunar theory, which is the idea that the movements of fish and other animals are affected by the location of the sun and moon. The major periods are believed to be the times of the greatest animal activity and occur when the moon is directly overhead or underfoot (lunar transits). The minor periods also see increased activity and occur when the moon is rising or setting. The strongest activity occurs during full or new moons, and the weakest during quarter or three quarter moons. This is indicated by the Action Rating.
