Special Weather Statement issued May 3 at 7:06PM EDT by NWS Albany NY

Effective: Sun May 3, 2026, 7:06 PM
Expires: Mon May 4, 2026, 7:00 AM

The combination of drying fine fuels, southwest wind gusts as high as 25 to 35 mph, and relative humidity values as low as 30 to 35 percent will lead to an elevated risk of fire spread tomorrow for the Mid-Hudson Valley, eastern Catskills, Taconics, and Greater Capital District. As a reminder, the annual statewide burn ban remains in effect until May 14. No burn permits are issued. Use extra caution if handling any potential ignition sources such as machinery or matches and ensure to properly extinguish or dispose of cigarette butts. Please refer to the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation website for more information on burn restrictions.

The times presented here are based upon the solunar theory, which is the idea that the movements of fish and other animals are affected by the location of the sun and moon. The major periods are believed to be the times of the greatest animal activity and occur when the moon is directly overhead or underfoot (lunar transits). The minor periods also see increased activity and occur when the moon is rising or setting. The strongest activity occurs during full or new moons, and the weakest during quarter or three quarter moons. This is indicated by the Action Rating.
