Special Weather Statement issued April 23 at 8:40AM EDT by NWS Binghamton NY

Effective: Thu April 23, 2026, 8:40 AM
Expires: Thu April 23, 2026, 7:00 PM

A combination of dry and windy conditions this afternoon will create an elevated risk of wildfire spread across Northeast Pennsylvania. Minimum relative humidity values will range from 25 to 35 percent accompanied by wind gusts between 15 and 25 mph. Residents are urged to exercise caution if handling any potential ignition sources, such as machinery, cigarettes, or matches. If dry grasses and tree litter begin to burn, the fire will have the potential to spread rapidly. This statement has been issued in coordination with the Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources.

The times presented here are based upon the solunar theory, which is the idea that the movements of fish and other animals are affected by the location of the sun and moon. The major periods are believed to be the times of the greatest animal activity and occur when the moon is directly overhead or underfoot (lunar transits). The minor periods also see increased activity and occur when the moon is rising or setting. The strongest activity occurs during full or new moons, and the weakest during quarter or three quarter moons. This is indicated by the Action Rating.
