Special Weather Statement issued May 29 at 5:25AM EDT by NWS Gaylord MI

Effective: Fri May 29, 2026, 5:25 AM
Expires: Fri May 29, 2026, 8:00 PM

The combination of drying fuels, low relative humidity values, and gusty winds will result in elevated fire danger conditions across northern lower Michigan today. West to northwest winds with sustained speeds between 7-12 mph will gust to 20-30 mph at times into this evening. Relative humidity values between 20-30 percent are expected across parts of northern Michigan from late morning into this evening. These conditions support the quick start and spread of wildfires, so be sure to take the proper precautions to prevent fires from starting. The times presented here are based upon the solunar theory, which is the idea that the movements of fish and other animals are affected by the location of the sun and moon. The major periods are believed to be the times of the greatest animal activity and occur when the moon is directly overhead or underfoot (lunar transits). The minor periods also see increased activity and occur when the moon is rising or setting. The strongest activity occurs during full or new moons, and the weakest during quarter or three quarter moons. This is indicated by the Action Rating.
