Blizzard Warning issued February 22 at 1:22PM EST until February 23 at 6:00PM EST by NWS Upton NY
Effective: Sun February 22, 2026, 1:22 PM
Expires: Mon February 23, 2026, 5:00 AM
* WHAT...Blizzard conditions. Additional snow accumulations between 17 and 24 inches. Winds gusting as high as 60 mph. * WHERE...Portions of southern Connecticut and southeast New York. * WHEN...Until 6 PM EST Monday. * IMPACTS...Visibilities may drop below 1/4 mile due to falling and blowing snow. Whiteout conditions are expected and will make travel treacherous and potentially life-threatening. The damaging winds and weight of snow on tree limbs may down power lines and could cause sporadic power outages. Travel could be very difficult to impossible. Areas of blowing snow could significantly reduce visibility. The hazardous conditions will impact the Monday morning and evening commutes. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Heaviest snow and strongest winds are expected tonight into Monday.
Travel should be restricted to emergencies only. If you must travel, have a winter survival kit with you. If you get stranded, stay with your vehicle. Check local Department of Transportation information services for the latest road conditions. A Blizzard Warning means severe winter weather conditions are expected or occurring. Falling and blowing snow with strong winds are likely. This will lead to whiteout conditions, making travel extremely dangerous. Do not travel. If you must travel, have a winter survival kit with you. If you get stranded, stay in your vehicle.
Special Weather Statement issued February 22 at 5:14PM EST by NWS Upton NY
Effective: Sun February 22, 2026, 5:14 PM
Expires: Sun February 22, 2026, 11:15 PM
***Moderate to Heavy Snow Early This Evening*** Bands of moderate to heavy snow will move across the area through 8pm. Snowfall rates will increase to one half to one inch per hour in the heaviest snow. Conditions will begin deteriorating, especially after sunset, as temperatures continue falling below freezing. This will allow the snow to accumulate on all surfaces. Travel is not recommended as roads will become snow covered and hazardous.
Coastal Flood Advisory issued February 22 at 3:22PM EST until February 23 at 6:00PM EST by NWS Upton NY
Effective: Sun February 22, 2026, 3:22 PM
Expires: Mon February 23, 2026, 5:00 PM
* WHAT...For the Coastal Flood Warning, 1 1/2 to 2 1/2 ft, locally 3 ft, of inundation above ground level expected in vulnerable areas near the waterfront and shoreline. For the Coastal Flood Advisory, up to 1 1/2 ft of inundation above ground level expected in vulnerable areas near the waterfront and shoreline. * WHERE...Southwest Suffolk and Southern Nassau Counties. * WHEN...For the Coastal Flood Warning, from 10 PM this evening to 4 AM EST Monday. For the Coastal Flood Advisory, from 11 AM to 6 PM EST Monday. * COASTAL FLOOD IMPACTS...Widespread moderate to localized major flooding of vulnerable areas near the waterfront and shoreline likely. Expect 1 1/2 to 2 1/2 ft, locally 3 ft of inundation above ground level possible in low lying, vulnerable areas. This will result in numerous road closures and cause widespread flooding of low lying property including parking lots, parks, lawns and homes/businesses with basements near the waterfront. Vehicles parked in vulnerable areas near the waterfront will likely become flooded. Flooding will also extend inland from the waterfront along tidal rivers and bays. Ice cover in the bays and harbors could exacerbate flooding and cause damage to northeast to east facing shoreline structures. * SHORELINE IMPACTS...Breaking surf of 5 to 10 ft along the ocean front will cause widespread beach flooding and erosion during the time of high tide. Areas of dune erosion are likely, with localized washovers possible where dunes are compromised. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS...This water level forecast has been leaned towards a high end scenario, providing a margin of safety. It is highly dependent on timing of windshift from northeast to north storm force winds with respect to the time of high tide. If shift to northerly winds occurs earlier than time of high tide, water levels will fall to the low end or even below the forecast range. Ice cover in the bays and harbors could exacerbate flooding and cause damage to north to northeast facing shoreline structures. Additional minor to locally moderate coastal flooding is likely with the Monday afternoon high tide.
Take the necessary actions to protect flood-prone property. If travel is required, do not drive around barricades or through water of unknown depth.

* WHAT...1 1/2 to 2 1/2 ft of inundation above ground level likely in vulnerable areas near the waterfront and shoreline. * WHERE...Bronx, Northwest Suffolk, Northern Queens and Northern Nassau Counties. * WHEN...From midnight tonight to 5 AM EST Monday. * COASTAL FLOOD IMPACTS...Widespread moderate flooding of vulnerable areas near the waterfront and shoreline likely. 1 1/2 to 2 1/2 ft of inundation above ground level possible in low lying, vulnerable areas. Ice cover in the bays and harbors could exacerbate flooding and cause damage to northeast to east facing shoreline structure. * SHORELINE IMPACTS...Breaking surf of 3 to 5 ft along north and northeast facing shorelines will cause beach flooding and dune erosion during the time of high tide. This may also exacerbate splashover flooding of shorelines roads and properties behind protective dunes, structures and seawalls. Minor damage to shoreline structures possible. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS...This water level forecast has been leaned towards a high end scenario, providing a margin of safety.
