* WHAT...Blizzard conditions. Additional snow accumulations between 17 and 24 inches. Winds gusting as high as 60 mph. * WHERE...Portions of southern Connecticut and southeast New York. * WHEN...Until 6 PM EST Monday. * IMPACTS...Visibilities may drop below 1/4 mile due to falling and blowing snow. Whiteout conditions are expected and will make travel treacherous and potentially life-threatening. The damaging winds and weight of snow on tree limbs may down power lines and could cause sporadic power outages. Travel could be very difficult to impossible. Areas of blowing snow could significantly reduce visibility. The hazardous conditions will impact the Monday morning and evening commutes. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Heaviest snow and strongest winds are expected tonight into Monday.

Travel should be restricted to emergencies only. If you must travel, have a winter survival kit with you. If you get stranded, stay with your vehicle. Check local Department of Transportation information services for the latest road conditions. A Blizzard Warning means severe winter weather conditions are expected or occurring. Special Weather Statement issued February 22 at 5:14PM EST by NWS Upton NY

Effective: Sun February 22, 2026, 5:14 PM
Expires: Sun February 22, 2026, 11:15 PM

***Moderate to Heavy Snow Early This Evening*** Bands of moderate to heavy snow will move across the area through 8pm. Snowfall rates will increase to one half to one inch per hour in the heaviest snow. Conditions will deteriorate this evening. Travel is not recommended as roads will become snow covered and hazardous.

Coastal Flood Warning issued February 22 at 3:22PM EST until February 23 at 5:00AM EST by NWS Upton NY

Effective: Sun February 22, 2026, 3:22 PM
Expires: Mon February 23, 2026, 5:00 AM

* WHAT...1 1/2 to 2 1/2 ft of inundation above ground level likely in vulnerable areas near the waterfront and shoreline. * WHERE...In Connecticut, Southern Fairfield and Southern New Haven Counties. In New York, Southern Westchester County. * WHEN...From midnight tonight to 5 AM EST Monday. * COASTAL FLOOD IMPACTS...Widespread moderate flooding of vulnerable areas near the waterfront and shoreline likely. 1 1/2 to 2 1/2 ft of inundation above ground level possible in low lying, vulnerable areas. This would result in numerous road closures and cause widespread flooding of low lying property including parking lots, parks, lawns and homes/businesses with basements near the waterfront. Vehicles parked in vulnerable areas near the waterfront will likely become flooded. Flooding will also extend inland from the waterfront along tidal rivers and bays. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS...This water level forecast has been leaned towards a high end scenario, providing a margin of safety. It is highly dependent on timing of windshift from northeast to north storm force winds with respect to the time of high tide. If shift to northerly winds occurs earlier than time of high tide, water levels will fall to the low end or even below the forecast range.

Take the necessary actions to protect flood-prone property. If travel is required, do not drive around barricades or through water of unknown depth.

Special Weather Statement issued February 22 at 11:08PM EST by NWS Upton NY

Effective: Sun February 22, 2026, 11:08 PM
Expires: Mon February 23, 2026, 5:00 AM

***Multiple Bands of Heavy Snow to Impact the Area Overnight*** Bands of heavy snow will move across the area through the overnight as low pressure rapidly intensifies to the south. Some of these bands will produce 2 to 3 inches per hour rates. However, in between bands, snowfall rates may drop off to about an inch per hour. Farther to the west, across western portions of the Lower Hudson Valley and interior portions of northeast New Jersey there will be a sharp back edge to the heavy snow and some uncertainty as to how far these bands get. This could impact snowfall totals across this area. Additionally, winds will become a factor as the night progresses. Blizzard conditions are expected and will make travel treacherous and potentially life-threatening.

The times presented here are based upon the solunar theory, which is the idea that the movements of fish and other animals are affected by the location of the sun and moon. The major periods are believed to be the times of the greatest animal activity and occur when the moon is directly overhead or underfoot (lunar transits). The minor periods also see increased activity and occur when the moon is rising or setting. The strongest activity occurs during full or new moons, and the weakest during quarter or three quarter moons. This is indicated by the Action Rating.
