Special Weather Statement issued January 26 at 7:28PM EST by NWS Upton NY

Effective: Mon January 26, 2026, 7:28 PM
Expires: Mon January 26, 2026, 9:00 PM

Snow showers are moving across portions of Southern Connecticut and Eastern Suffolk County on Long Island this evening. These are expected to continue before 900 PM. In addition, wind gusts up to near 30 mph can be expected at times. This will result in reduced visibilities, down to near 1 to 2 miles at times, as well as a localized quick coating of snow for any relatively heavier snow showers. When encountering these conditions, proceed with extra caution and be prepared for slippery conditions on any untreated surfaces. Motorists should slow down and allow for extra space between vehicles.

Winter Storm Warning issued January 26 at 2:01AM EST until January 26 at 8:00PM EST by NWS Boston/Norton MA

Effective: Mon January 26, 2026, 2:01 AM
Expires: Mon January 26, 2026, 5:00 PM

* WHAT...Heavy snow. Additional snow accumulations 1-5 inches. The highest amounts are expected along the immediate northeastern coastline. * WHERE...Portions of northern Connecticut, central, eastern, northeastern, southeastern, and western Massachusetts, and northern and southern Rhode Island. * WHEN...Until 8 PM EST this evening. * IMPACTS...Roads, and especially bridges and overpasses, will likely become slick and hazardous.

If you must travel, keep an extra flashlight, food, and water in your vehicle in case of an emergency. Persons should consider delaying all travel. Motorists should use extreme caution if travel is absolutely necessary.

Special Weather Statement issued January 26 at 6:40PM EST by NWS Boston/Norton MA

Effective: Mon January 26, 2026, 6:40 PM
Expires: Mon January 26, 2026, 11:00 PM

One last area of snow showers moving through Rhode Island and central and eastern Massachusetts this evening will bring a quick inch or two of accumulation. The snow will briefly lower visibility and could quickly produce snow covered roads. Drivers should be aware of slippery road conditions tonight. Plan on extra travel time.

The times presented here are based upon the solunar theory, which is the idea that the movements of fish and other animals are affected by the location of the sun and moon. The major periods are believed to be the times of the greatest animal activity and occur when the moon is directly overhead or underfoot (lunar transits). The minor periods also see increased activity and occur when the moon is rising or setting. The strongest activity occurs during full or new moons, and the weakest during quarter or three quarter moons. This is indicated by the Action Rating.
