Coastal Flood Advisory issued February 22 at 3:22PM EST until February 23 at 5:00AM EST by NWS Upton NY

Effective: Sun February 22, 2026, 8:22 PM
Expires: Mon February 23, 2026, 10:00 AM

* WHAT...Up to 1 1/2 ft of inundation above ground level likely in vulnerable areas near the waterfront and shoreline. * WHERE...Southern Middlesex and Southern New London Counties. * WHEN...From 11 PM this evening to 5 AM EST Monday. * IMPACTS...Widespread minor coastal flooding is expected in the most vulnerable locations near the waterfront and shoreline. Expect up to 1 1/2 ft of inundation above ground level in low lying, vulnerable areas. Some roads and low lying property including parking lots, parks, lawns and homes/businesses with basements near the waterfront will experience shallow flooding. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS...This water level forecast has been leaned towards a high end scenario, providing a margin of safety. It is highly dependent on timing of windshift from northeast to north storm force winds with respect to the time of high tide. If shift to northerly winds occurs earlier than time of high tide, water levels will fall to the low end or even below the forecast range.

If travel is required, allow extra time as some roads may be closed. Do not drive around barricades or through water of unknown depth. Take the necessary actions to protect flood-prone property.

Whiteout conditions are expected and will make travel treacherous and potentially life-threatening. The damaging winds and weight of snow on tree limbs may down power lines and could cause sporadic power outages. Travel could be very difficult to impossible. Areas of blowing snow could significantly reduce visibility. The hazardous conditions will impact the Monday morning and evening commutes. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Heaviest snow and strongest winds are expected tonight into Monday.

The times presented here are based upon the solunar theory, which is the idea that the movements of fish and other animals are affected by the location of the sun and moon. The major periods are believed to be the times of the greatest animal activity and occur when the moon is directly overhead or underfoot (lunar transits). The minor periods also see increased activity and occur when the moon is rising or setting. The strongest activity occurs during full or new moons, and the weakest during quarter or three quarter moons. This is indicated by the Action Rating.
