Special Weather Statement issued April 10 at 8:05AM EDT by NWS Charleston WV

Effective: Fri April 10, 2026, 8:05 AM
Expires: Fri April 10, 2026, 11:00 AM

...HERE IS A FIRE WEATHER STATEMENT ISSUED IN COORDINATION WITH THE WEST VIRGINIA DIVISION OF FORESTRY... There is increased risk for fire weather this afternoon and evening with relative humidity values between 15 and 30 percent and wind gusts between 15 and 25 mph. Wildfires can easily start and spread in these conditions. Please be mindful of any open burning, machinery that may throw sparks, and properly dispose of cigarettes. These factors can all lead to ignition and spread of wildfires. Please adhere to any local burn laws that may be in effect for your area.

Special Weather Statement issued April 10 at 8:11AM EDT by NWS Pittsburgh PA

Effective: Fri April 10, 2026, 8:11 AM
Expires: Fri April 10, 2026, 8:00 PM

Elevated fire weather risks develop late this morning into the afternoon as relative humidity values drop between 20 and 30 percent while southwest wind gusts between 15 and 25 mph. Conditions will improve northwest to southeast this evening as rain overspreads the region ahead of a passing cold front. Please be mindful of open burning, cigarettes, and any machinery that may throw sparks as these can all start a wildfire very efficiently in these dry and breezy conditions. Please adhere to any local burn laws that may be in effect for your area.

Special Weather Statement issued April 10 at 6:50AM EDT by NWS Pittsburgh PA

Effective: Fri April 10, 2026, 6:50 AM
Expires: Fri April 10, 2026, 6:00 PM

The combination of marginally dry and breezy conditions will create an elevated risk of wildfire spread across most of central Pennsylvania once again today. Minimum relative humidity values will be between 25 and 35 percent over the bulk of the region, though rain sneaking into northwest PA may limit those humidity drops to the 40 percent range. Wind gusts will be from the south to southwest between 15 and 25 mph with an occasional 30 mph gust in higher terrain locations between noon and 5pm EDT. Residents are urged to exercise caution if handling any potential ignition sources, such as machinery, cigarettes, or matches. If dry grasses and tree litter begin to burn, the fire will have the potential to spread rapidly. For more information about wildfire danger and wildfire prevention and education, please visit the Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources website at http://dcnr.pa.gov/Communities/Wildfire.

The times presented here are based upon the solunar theory, which is the idea that the movements of fish and other animals are affected by the location of the sun and moon. The major periods are believed to be the times of the greatest animal activity and occur when the moon is directly overhead or underfoot (lunar transits). The minor periods also see increased activity and occur when the moon is rising or setting. The strongest activity occurs during full or new moons, and the weakest during quarter or three quarter moons. This is indicated by the Action Rating.
