Special Weather Statement issued January 7 at 5:20AM EST by NWS State College PA

Effective: Wed January 7, 2026, 5:20 AM
Expires: Wed January 7, 2026, 9:00 AM

Isolated pockets of dense fog will reduce visibility to a quarter mile or less in spots early this morning. If traveling, be prepared for changes in visibility over a short distance especially on ridgetops or in river and stream valleys. The fog will dissipate and visibility will improve shortly as the wind picks up and helps to warm the temperatures. In addition, there are a few places where the temperature is right around freezing, mainly near York and Hanover. The fog may freeze onto surfaces at those temperatures, so be on the lookout for icy patches, too.

The times presented here are based upon the solunar theory, which is the idea that the movements of fish and other animals are affected by the location of the sun and moon. The major periods are believed to be the times of the greatest animal activity and occur when the moon is directly overhead or underfoot (lunar transits). The minor periods also see increased activity and occur when the moon is rising or setting. The strongest activity occurs during full or new moons, and the weakest during quarter or three quarter moons. This is indicated by the Action Rating.
