Fire Weather Watch issued March 10 at 2:44PM CDT until March 11 at 8:00PM CDT by NWS Brownsville TX

Effective: Tue March 10, 2026, 2:44 PM
Expires: Wed March 11, 2026, 8:00 AM

...ELEVATED TO CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER RISK EXPECTED ON WEDNESDAY... .A precipitous drop off in relative humidity (RH) values are expected to take place Wednesday afternoon following the passage of a dryline. The combination of low RH values ranging between 15-30%, an ongoing drought ranging from D2 (Severe Drought) to D4 (Exceptional Drought), and breezy northwest winds will result in elevated to critical fire weather risk on Wednesday across all of Deep South Texas, excluding the island. The National Weather Service in Brownsville has issued a Fire Weather Watch for breezy winds and low relative humidity, which is in effect from Wednesday afternoon through Wednesday evening. * WINDS...10-20 mph gusting as high as 25-30 mph. * RELATIVE HUMIDITY...As low as 15-30 percent. * TEMPERATURES...Mid to upper 90s. * IMPACTS...Any fire that develops will catch and spread quickly. Outdoor burning is not recommended.

A Fire Weather Watch means that critical fire weather conditions are forecast to occur. Listen for later forecasts and possible Red Flag Warnings.

Rip Current Statement issued March 11 at 1:37AM CDT until March 12 at 7:00PM CDT by NWS Brownsville TX

Effective: Wed March 11, 2026, 1:37 AM
Expires: Wed March 11, 2026, 10:00 AM

* WHAT...Dangerous rip currents expected. * WHERE...Kenedy Island, Willacy Island and Cameron Island Counties. * WHEN...From this evening through Thursday evening. * IMPACTS...Rip currents can sweep even the best swimmers away from shore into deeper water.

Swim near a lifeguard. If caught in a rip current, relax and float. Don't swim against the current. If able, swim in a direction following the shoreline. If unable to escape, face the shore and call or wave for help.

The times presented here are based upon the solunar theory, which is the idea that the movements of fish and other animals are affected by the location of the sun and moon. The major periods are believed to be the times of the greatest animal activity and occur when the moon is directly overhead or underfoot (lunar transits). The minor periods also see increased activity and occur when the moon is rising or setting. The strongest activity occurs during full or new moons, and the weakest during quarter or three quarter moons. This is indicated by the Action Rating.
