Effective: Thu June 18, 2026, 10:14 PM
Expires: Fri June 19, 2026, 8:00 AM

Heat indices will struggle to cool under 90F degrees overnight tonight in many places. These high heat indices will result in little to no relief from the very hot temperatures earlier today. We urge you to continue to exercise safety heat measures through the night as a result. ATE

Extreme Heat Warning issued June 18 at 8:10PM CDT until June 19 at 7:00PM CDT by NWS Brownsville TX

Effective: Thu June 18, 2026, 8:10 PM
Expires: Fri June 19, 2026, 7:00 PM

* WHAT...Dangerously hot conditions with peak heat index values ranging between 112-121F degrees is expected. * WHERE...All of Deep South Texas, excluding the island. * WHEN...From noon to 7 PM CDT Friday. * IMPACTS...Heat related illnesses increase significantly during extreme heat and high humidity events. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS...While overnight heat indices will not meet Extreme Heat Warning or Heat Advisory criteria, there will be little relief from the heat. Heat indices are expected to remain above 90 degrees tonight. Continue to stay hydrated, use air conditioning when possible (or stay with a friend or family member who has air conditioning), and check on those who may be more vulnerable to the heat.

Drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors. Do not leave young children and pets in unattended vehicles. Car interiors will reach lethal temperatures in a matter of minutes. To reduce risk during outdoor work, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration recommends scheduling frequent rest breaks in shaded or air conditioned environments. Anyone overcome by heat should be moved to a cool and shaded location. Heat stroke is an emergency! Call 9 1 1. Stay cool, stay hydrated, stay informed. If you do not have air conditioning in your home or lack shelter, you can call 211 or visit http://www.211texas.org for assistance locating appropriate shelter from the heat.

The times presented here are based upon the solunar theory, which is the idea that the movements of fish and other animals are affected by the location of the sun and moon. The major periods are believed to be the times of the greatest animal activity and occur when the moon is directly overhead or underfoot (lunar transits). The minor periods also see increased activity and occur when the moon is rising or setting. The strongest activity occurs during full or new moons, and the weakest during quarter or three quarter moons. This is indicated by the Action Rating.
