Special Weather Statement issued November 5 at 9:58AM PST by NWS Portland OR

Effective: Wed November 5, 2025, 9:58 AM
Expires: Wed November 5, 2025, 7:00 PM

A cool and unstable airmass over northwest Oregon and southwest Washington today will result in scattered showers and thunderstorms through Wednesday evening. Stronger showers and thunderstorms will have the potential to produce locally damaging wind gusts up to 60 mph and/or a funnel cloud or brief tornado. If you see a funnel cloud or a tornado, or if a Tornado Warning or a Severe Thunderstorm Warning is issued for your area, you should go to an interior room on the lowest floor of your residence. In addition, you should take actions to protect your head, such as getting under a sturdy table. If you are outdoors and cannot get to shelter, get in a ditch or culvert and cover your head. Never go under an overpass during high winds or a tornado.

Coastal Flood Advisory issued November 5 at 3:24PM PST until November 6 at 3:00PM PST by NWS Portland OR

Effective: Wed November 5, 2025, 3:24 PM
Expires: Thu November 6, 2025, 4:00 AM

* WHAT...For the High Surf Advisory, large waves and hazardous surf conditions. Breakers up to 25-30 feet. For the Coastal Flood Advisory, tidal overflow flooding expected. * WHERE...Clatsop and Tillamook Coast, and South Washington Coast. * WHEN...For the High Surf Advisory, from 4 AM to 7 PM PST Thursday. For the Coastal Flood Advisory, from 10 AM to 3 PM PST Thursday. * IMPACTS...Minor flooding, up to one foot above ground level, during high tides is expected in the low lying areas near bays, sloughs, and the lower reaches of the coastal rivers. Destructive waves may wash over beaches, jetties, and other structures unexpectedly. People can be swept off rocks and jetties and drown while observing high surf. Minor beach erosion may damage coastal properties and buildings. Higher than normal water run-up is expected on beaches and low-lying shoreline. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Sneaker waves are also possible due to high waves and long period energetic periods. Caution should be used when in or near the water. Always keep an eye on the waves, and be especially watchful of children and pets.

A Coastal Flood Advisory means that tidal overflow flooding is expected. Coastal residents in the warned area should be alert for rising water, and take appropriate action to protect life and property. A High Surf Advisory means that high surf will affect beaches, producing rip currents, sneaker waves and beach erosion. Stay well back from the water's edge and be alert for exceptionally high waves. Keep away from large logs on the beach. Water running up on the beach can easily lift or roll logs which can injure or kill someone caught in their path.

The times presented here are based upon the solunar theory, which is the idea that the movements of fish and other animals are affected by the location of the sun and moon. The major periods are believed to be the times of the greatest animal activity and occur when the moon is directly overhead or underfoot (lunar transits). The minor periods also see increased activity and occur when the moon is rising or setting. The strongest activity occurs during full or new moons, and the weakest during quarter or three quarter moons. This is indicated by the Action Rating.
