Rip Current Statement issued February 19 at 12:39AM EST until February 21 at 3:00AM EST by NWS Melbourne FL

Effective: Thu February 19, 2026, 12:39 AM
Expires: Sat February 21, 2026, 3:00 AM

* WHAT...Dangerous rip currents. * WHERE...Beaches of Volusia, Brevard, Indian River, St Lucie, and Martin Counties. * WHEN...Through late Friday night. * IMPACTS...Rip currents can sweep even the best swimmers away from shore into deeper water.

Rip currents are powerful channels of water flowing quickly away from shore, which occur most often at low spots or breaks in the sandbar and in the vicinity of structures such as jetties and piers. Heed the advice of lifeguards, beach patrol flags and signs. Entering the surf is strongly discouraged. If caught in a rip current, relax and float. Don't swim against the current. If able, swim in a direction following the shoreline. If unable to escape, face the shore and call or wave for help.

Special Weather Statement issued February 20 at 6:41AM EST by NWS Melbourne FL

Effective: Fri February 20, 2026, 6:41 AM
Expires: Fri February 20, 2026, 9:00 AM

At 6:40 AM, observations, traffic cameras, and satellite imagery indicated that patchy dense fog has developed across portions of the southern East Central Florida counties. Localized visibilities of a half-mile or less will be possible. This fog was drifting north, and could reach parts of Orange and northern Brevard counties before dissipating. Motorists should be alert for sudden changes in visibility. When encountering fog, slow down, increase following distance, and use low-beam headlights.

The times presented here are based upon the solunar theory, which is the idea that the movements of fish and other animals are affected by the location of the sun and moon. The major periods are believed to be the times of the greatest animal activity and occur when the moon is directly overhead or underfoot (lunar transits). The minor periods also see increased activity and occur when the moon is rising or setting. The strongest activity occurs during full or new moons, and the weakest during quarter or three quarter moons. This is indicated by the Action Rating.
