* WHAT...Southeast winds 40 to 60 mph with gusts up to 85 mph expected. * WHERE...Anchorage Hillside and higher elevations of Eagle River. * WHEN...From 3 PM Thursday to noon AKST Friday. * IMPACTS...High winds may move loose debris, damage property, and cause power outages. Travel will be difficult. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Winds will strengthen through the day Thursday, then peak between 3pm and 7pm. Wind gusts will then temporarily diminish to around 45 to 60 mph Thursday evening. Winds will then strengthen again overnight with a second peak in winds expected late Thursday night through Friday morning.

People are urged to secure loose objects that could be blown around or damaged by the wind. Prepare for the possibility of widespread power outages. Use caution if you must drive.

SABAFC The following message is transmitted at the request of the Chugach National Forest Avalanche Center. ...THE CHUGACH NATIONAL FOREST AVALANCHE INFORMATION CENTER HAS ISSUED AN AVALANCHE WARNING FOR FOR THE FOLLOWING AREAS: ANCHORAGE HILLSIDE, GIRDWOOD, PORTAGE, INTERIOR KENAI PENINSULA, AND THE SOUTHERN KENAI MOUNTAINS... * WHAT...The backcountry avalanche danger is HIGH. Very dangerous avalanche conditions exist. * WHERE...For the Western Chugach and Kenai Mountains in and around Anchorage, Girdwood, Portage, Turnagain Pass, Summit Lake, Lost Lake, and Seward. * WHEN...In effect Thursday 6:00 AM AKST through Friday 6:00 AM AKST. * IMPACTS...An atmospheric river will impact southcentral Alaska. Strong winds, heavy snowfall, and heavy rain will create widespread areas of unstable snow. Large natural avalanches are likely and human triggered avalanches are very likely. Debris from avalanches above may run into valley bottoms. Avalanche conditions will remain very dangerous during and immediately after the storm finishes. * PRECAUTIONARY / PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...Travel in avalanche terrain is NOT recommended. Winds gusting up to 50 mph. * WHERE...Anchorage and Eagle River (all elevations), Matanuska Valley, and Southern Susitna Valley. * WHEN...From 6 PM Thursday to 9 PM AKST Friday. * IMPACTS...Travel could be very difficult. The hazardous conditions could impact the Thursday evening and Friday morning commutes. Very strong winds could cause extensive damage to trees and power lines. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS...A warm and wet system will move into the area tomorrow, gradually increasing temperatures and southeasterly winds. Overnight on Thursday, light to moderate rain will develop and spread over Anchorage, the Mat Valley and southern Susitna Valley. Winds gusting as high as 50 mph through Portage and eastern Turnagain Arm. * WHERE...East Turnagain Arm, Interior Kenai Peninsula, and Turnagain Pass. * WHEN...From 3 AM Thursday to 3 PM AKST Friday. * IMPACTS...Travel could be very difficult. Areas of blowing snow early Thursday morning could significantly reduce visibility. The hazardous conditions could impact the Thursday morning and evening commutes. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS...A strong front and atmospheric river will move into the eastern Kenai Peninsula and Eastern Turnagain Arm Thursday morning and remain in place through Friday. Snow levels will gradually rise Thursday to between 1600 and 2200 ft. Heavy rain falling on snow covered and frozen roadways will cause hazardous conditions. Hydroplaning will be likely in areas. Total liquid amounts of 1.8 to 4.5 inches expected.
