Effective: Thu June 25, 2026, 12:57 PM
Expires: Thu June 25, 2026, 11:00 PM

...CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER CONDITIONS POSSIBLE FOR SATURDAY-SUNDAY... .A strong upper-level trough from the Pacific Northwest will bring breezy southwest winds for Gila National Forest and the Southwest New Mexico Deserts on Saturday and Sunday. These winds will range from 15-25 mph. Combined with Min RH values in the mid-to-upper teens, gusts up to 40 mph, and insufficient fuel recovery from isolated showers and thunderstorms this weekend, these winds will raise fire weather conditions to near critical. * AFFECTED AREA...Fire Weather Zone 110 Southwest Mountains/Gila NF/Apache NF/GLZ and Fire Weather Zone 111 Southwest Deserts and Lowlands/Las Cruces BLM/GLZ. * TIMING...Saturday morning through Sunday evening. * WINDS...Southwest 15 to 25 mph with gusts up to 40 mph. * RELATIVE HUMIDITY...As low as 11 percent. * IMPACTS...Any fires that develop will likely spread rapidly. Outdoor burning is not recommended.

A Fire Weather Watch means that critical fire weather conditions are forecast to occur. Listen for later forecasts and possible Red Flag Warnings.

Effective: Thu June 25, 2026, 1:43 PM
Expires: Fri June 26, 2026, 2:00 AM

...FIRE WEATHER WATCH REMAINS IN EFFECT FROM LATE SATURDAY MORNING THROUGH SATURDAY EVENING DUE TO STRONG WINDS AND LOW RELATIVE HUMIDITY FOR MUCH OF NORTHWEST AND NORTHEAST NEW MEXICO AS WELL AS THE CENTRAL HIGHLANDS... .Critical fire weather conditions will return on Saturday across much of northwest and northeast New Mexico as well as the Central Highlands. Strong southwest winds with gusts up to 45 mph and humidity values falling below 15 percent are expected. Spotty wetting rainfall the next couple of days will not significantly improve fuel dryness, with the northwest remaining the driest portion of the state. Any lightning-started fires will have the potential to grow quickly under these fire weather conditions. * AFFECTED AREA...Northwest Plateau (Zone 101), Northeast Plains (Zone 104), West Central Mountains (Zone 105), North Central Mountains (Zone 120), Upper Rio Grande Valley and Lower Chama River Valley (Zone 121), Northeast Highlands (Zone 123), and Central Highlands (Zone 125). * TIMING...From Saturday morning through Saturday evening. * 20 FOOT WINDS...Southwest winds 20 to 30 mph with gusts up to 45 mph. * RELATIVE HUMIDITY...Relative humidity between 8 to 15 percent. * IMPACTS...Any fires that develop will spread rapidly. Outdoor burning is not recommended.

The times presented here are based upon the solunar theory, which is the idea that the movements of fish and other animals are affected by the location of the sun and moon. The major periods are believed to be the times of the greatest animal activity and occur when the moon is directly overhead or underfoot (lunar transits). The minor periods also see increased activity and occur when the moon is rising or setting. The strongest activity occurs during full or new moons, and the weakest during quarter or three quarter moons. This is indicated by the Action Rating.
