Effective: Sat January 24, 2026, 12:27 PM
Expires: Sun January 25, 2026, 4:00 AM

* WHAT...Dangerously cold wind chills as low as 5 to 10 below through Monday morning. * WHERE...Portions of southeast New Mexico and southwest and western Texas. * WHEN...Until 11 AM MST /noon CST/ Monday. * IMPACTS...The cold wind chills as low as 5 to 10 below zero could result in hypothermia if precautions are not taken. Frostbite and hypothermia will occur if unprotected skin is exposed to these temperatures. An extended period of freezing temperatures could cause ruptured water pipes.

Remain indoors if possible. Cover all exposed skin and limit time outside if you must go out. Dress in layers including a hat, face mask, and gloves. Cover outdoor faucets. To prevent water pipes from freezing wrap or drain or allow them to drip slowly. Bring pets indoors, or ensure that they have warm, dry shelter. Make sure outdoor animals have a warm, dry shelter, food, and unfrozen water.

Winter Storm Warning issued January 24 at 12:19PM MST until January 25 at 11:00AM MST by NWS Midland/Odessa TX

Effective: Sat January 24, 2026, 12:19 PM
Expires: Sun January 25, 2026, 4:00 AM

* WHAT...Heavy mixed precipitation. Total snow and sleet accumulations of 3 to 6 inches in the Guadalupe Mountains and southeast New Mexico Plains. Total snow and sleet accumulations of 1 to 3 inches over the Permian Basin, the Upper Trans Pecos, Van Horn Corridor, and Davis Mountains. Ice accumulations up to one tenth to one quarter of an inch in areas impacted by freezing rain. * WHERE...Portions of southeast New Mexico and southwest and western Texas. * WHEN...Until 11 AM MST /noon CST/ Sunday. * IMPACTS...Roads, and especially bridges and overpasses, will likely become slick and hazardous. Significant ice accumulation on power lines and tree limbs may cause widespread and long-lasting power outages in areas impacted by freezing rain. Expect very icy and snow packed roads, sidewalks, and other exposed surfaces. Dangerous travel conditions are also expected across the area. Some roads could become impassable.

If you must travel, keep an extra flashlight, food, and water in your vehicle in case of an emergency. In New Mexico, dial 511 or visit nmroads.com for current road conditions. In Texas, dial 800-452-9292 or visit drivetexas.org for current road conditions. Persons should delay all travel if possible. If travel is absolutely necessary, drive with extreme caution and be prepared for sudden changes in visibility. Leave plenty of room between you and the motorist ahead of you, and allow extra time to reach your destination. Avoid sudden braking or acceleration, and be especially cautious on hills or when making turns. Make sure your car is winterized and in good working order.

The times presented here are based upon the solunar theory, which is the idea that the movements of fish and other animals are affected by the location of the sun and moon. The major periods are believed to be the times of the greatest animal activity and occur when the moon is directly overhead or underfoot (lunar transits). The minor periods also see increased activity and occur when the moon is rising or setting. The strongest activity occurs during full or new moons, and the weakest during quarter or three quarter moons. This is indicated by the Action Rating.
