Red Flag Warning issued July 31 at 8:31AM HST until August 1 at 6:00PM HST by NWS Honolulu HI

Effective: Thu July 31, 2025, 8:31 AM
Expires: Thu July 31, 2025, 10:45 PM

...RED FLAG WARNING IN EFFECT THROUGH FRIDAY AFTERNOON FOR GUSTY WINDS AND LOW HUMIDITY... .A dry and locally windy trade wind flow will develop today and will produce critical fire weather conditions through at least Friday and possibly into Saturday. Winds will be strongest over and downwind of terrain. The National Weather Service in Honolulu has issued a Red Flag Warning for wind and low relative humidity, which is in effect until 6 PM HST Friday. * AFFECTED AREA...Leeward portions of all Hawaiian Islands and interior sections of the Big Island. * TIMING...Until 6 PM HST Friday. * WINDS...East 15 to 30 mph with gusts up to 40 mph on Oahu and Kauai and gusts up to 50 mph on Maui County and Big Island. * RELATIVE HUMIDITY...Lowering to 35 to 45 percent each afternoon. * IMPACTS...A combination of strong winds, low relative humidity, and dry fuels can contribute to extreme fire behavior. Any fires that develop will likely spread rapidly. A Red Flag Warning does not predict new fire starts.

Outdoor burning is not recommended. Heat from vehicle exhaust systems can ignite dry grass. Park cars on areas that are paved or where vegetation is trimmed and cleared. High winds contribute to wildfire hazard. Delay activities that could throw off sparks until the wind dies down. A Red Flag Warning means that critical fire weather conditions are either occurring now or will shortly. A combination of strong winds, low relative humidity, and warm temperatures can contribute to extreme fire behavior. A Red Flag Warning does not predict new fire starts.

The times presented here are based upon the solunar theory, which is the idea that the movements of fish and other animals are affected by the location of the sun and moon. The major periods are believed to be the times of the greatest animal activity and occur when the moon is directly overhead or underfoot (lunar transits). The minor periods also see increased activity and occur when the moon is rising or setting. The strongest activity occurs during full or new moons, and the weakest during quarter or three quarter moons. This is indicated by the Action Rating.
