A long period of snowfall with total amounts of 30 to 40 cm continues. A prolonged period of heavy snowfall. Where: North Coast - Inland including Stewart and Highway 37. When: - Stewart: Now to late this morning. - Highway 37: Now to this evening. Remarks: A strong low pressure system over the region will continue to bring heavy snow to Stewart and the surrounding areas today. As temperatures rise above the freezing mark, snow is expected to transition to rain. Snow is expected to change to rain in Stewart late this morning. Further inland over Highway 37, the transition to rain will likely occur late in the day. Snowfall totals are expected to range between 30 to 40 cm. ### Travel will likely be challenging. Roads and walkways will likely be difficult to navigate due to accumulating snow. Please continue to monitor alerts and forecasts issued by Environment Canada. Heavy rain falling on snow What: - 30 to 40 cm of snow has fallen since Sunday afternoon - 50 to 80 mm of rain When: Now to Tuesday morning Where: Kitimat to Terrace Hazards: - Challenging driving conditions due to rapidly accumulating snow and limited visibility. - Localised flooding due to rain on snow covered surfaces Additional information: An atmospheric river over the B.C. coast will remain over the region until Tuesday bringing heavy snow and rain. Snowfall accumulations of 30 to 40 cm have fallen since Sunday afternoon. The heavy snow has changed to rain as temperatures have gradually risen above the freezing mark. Heavy rain is expected for the rest of day with up to 80 mm of rain expected by Tuesday morning. This may result in localised flooding as the rain collects on snow covered surfaces before the snow completely melts. ### Roads and walkways will likely be difficult to navigate. Roofs are at an increased risk of collapse under the weight of snow. Please continue to monitor alerts and forecasts issued by Environment Canada.
