High Risk of Rip Currents for north and east facing reefs. * WHEN...From 4 PM Saturday to 4 PM ChST Monday. * IMPACTS...Dangerous swimming and surfing conditions and localized beach erosion. Rip currents can sweep even the best swimmers away from shore into deeper water. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Surf is already elevated due to a complex mixture of swells moving through the region, generated by distant systems. As a shear line descends into the islands and a pulse of northerly swell moves into the region, hazardous surf around 9 feet for north facing reefs and dangerous rip currents along north and east facing reefs are expected to develop. Surf is expected to peak around 10 feet Sunday before slowly decreasing Sunday night and Monday as the shear line weakens and the northerly swell diminishes.

Rip currents will be life threatening. Inexperienced swimmers should remain out of the water due to dangerous surf conditions. If caught in a rip current, relax and float. Don't swim against the current. If able, swim in a direction following the shoreline. If unable to escape, face the shore and call or wave for help.
