Special Weather Statement issued June 6 at 2:41AM EDT by NWS Wilmington NC

Effective: Sat June 6, 2026, 2:41 AM
Expires: Sat June 6, 2026, 8:00 PM

The combination of extremely dry fine fuels as per state fire officials, along with low relative humidity and slightly gusty winds, will lead to an enhanced fire danger today, especially away from the coast. Relative humidity values are expected to fall to around 30 to 35 percent away from the coast with southwest winds gusting up to around 20 mph.

Please refer to your local burn permitting authorities on whether you can burn. If you do, you are advised to use extreme caution.

Special Weather Statement issued June 5 at 7:43PM EDT by NWS Wilmington NC

Effective: Fri June 5, 2026, 7:43 PM
Expires: Sat June 6, 2026, 8:00 PM

The combination of extremely dry fuels, low relative humidity, and gusty winds will lead to increased fire danger Saturday and Sunday. Relative humidity values will drop to around 25-30 percent mainly away from the coast, with southwest winds gusting around 20 mph.

Please refer to your local burn permitting authorities on whether you can burn. If you do, you are advised to use extreme caution.

Special Weather Statement issued June 6 at 9:11AM EDT by NWS Newport/Morehead City NC

Effective: Sat June 6, 2026, 9:11 AM
Expires: Sun June 7, 2026, 12:15 AM

Abnormally dry fuel conditions further exacerbated by high temperatures reaching well into the 90s inland, low relative humidity (lowest away from the immediate coast), and strengthening southwest winds gusting to 15-20mph in the afternoon will lead to increased fire danger today and Sunday. Fire fuels could easily ignite and spread rapidly in these conditions. Residents and visitors to the area are urged to properly dispose of cigarette butts, matches, and any other flammable items in appropriate containers. Exercise caution if operating any equipment that could create sparks, and keep vehicles off dry leaves and grass. Please refer to your local burn permitting authorities on whether you can burn. If you do, you are advised to use extreme caution.

The times presented here are based upon the solunar theory, which is the idea that the movements of fish and other animals are affected by the location of the sun and moon. The major periods are believed to be the times of the greatest animal activity and occur when the moon is directly overhead or underfoot (lunar transits). The minor periods also see increased activity and occur when the moon is rising or setting. The strongest activity occurs during full or new moons, and the weakest during quarter or three quarter moons. This is indicated by the Action Rating.
