Service Notice – April 2026: The Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC) CAP Service undergoes changes from time to time as the business of alerting evolves. For Spring 2026, changes are expected to include... 1) ECCC's initiative to introduce free-form polygons to represent the true threat area of a weather hazard is tentatively set for June 2026 deployment. Data changes will appear in CAP following this deployment, 2) marine alerts will now be issued for smaller zone splits in certain areas of Atlantic and Pacific waters and 3) other minor improvements and corrections. Long Duration Moderate to Heavy Rain What: Total rainfall amounts of 40 to 80 mm. Where: Yoho Park - Kootenay Park, East Kootenay, and Elk Valley. When: Now to Tuesday. Remarks: A potent Alberta low pressure system continues to bring moderate rain to southeastern BC today and tonight. The rain is expected to ease on Tuesday morning. Snow levels will decrease to as low as 1600 metres over Yoho Park - Kootenay Park region early this morning, so travellers and recreationalists are advised of winter conditions over higher elevations. Total rainfall amounts will vary greatly across southeastern BC. Highest rainfall amounts near 60 to 80 mm are possible over north- and east-facing slopes as well as communities and highways closest to the Alberta border. Up to 40 mm of rainfall is possible for areas further west. There is an elevated risk of flooding, landslides and washouts from heavy rain, and rain on snow in the mountains. Please continue to monitor your local forecast throughout the event. The B.C. River Forecast Centre provides information on current streamflow conditions and flooding alerts. Check DriveBC for road conditions. ### Please continue to monitor alerts and forecasts issued by Environment Canada. To report severe weather, send an email to BCstorm@ec.gc.ca or post reports on X using #BCStorm.
